Medicare: What you need to know

By Admin | November 01, 2017

If you’re on Medicare, it’s the time to renew your coverage for 2018, but there’s a right way and a wrong way to obtain your coverage.

For starters, if you’re going to use a broker to help you shop, be wary of anyone who doesn’t tell you all of your options--specifically comparable plans from multiple insurers.

Once the enrollment period is over on December 7th, it will be too late to make any changes to your policy for 2018. That means if you have adequate coverage, you’re stuck with it until next year’s enrollment period.

You can skip a broker entirely by using the Medicare Plan Finder, which lets you enter your doctors and even your prescriptions in order to find a plan that fits your current situation.

If you decide to go with a broker, be sure of the following:

  1. Your current doctors and medications are in-plan with the broker’s offerings.
  2. You’re given a best option regardless of whether the broker represents a certain plan.
  3. You’re made aware of federal and state programs available to help people with financial limitations.
  4. Your broker represents multiple insurance companies and options, where available.

If you live in a more densely populated area, chances are you will have several options for your future coverage.
