By Admin | July 27, 2016

Whether you’re ready or not, you may start seeing bundled payments for spine and orthopedics sooner rather than later.

There remain some definite challenges, which may not be completely addressed before the rollout, so practices are doing what they can to prepare.

One of the biggest questions is, what is a bundle? It seems simple enough, but in the world of spine and orthopedics, so many steps are taken for patient care, that there needs to be a clear delineation of where each bundle begins and ends. For example, does it begin when a patient first complains of pain or when a surgeon schedules surgery? And when does it end? At a nursing facility or in the recovery room at an outpatient facility?

There are many unknowns about bundled payments, but if things keep moving at such a rapid pace, the unknowns will need to be addressed much sooner.
